Media Has Low Credibility in India

People in India are more aware of the issues concerning them than the media would like to believe. It has been demonstrated time and again. The recent developments in the Parliament have proved again how irresponsible and partition media India is burdened with.

Living in a cocoon
Most of the persons controlling the media think they are influential. So, they always try to pass judgements and not in formations. The media has again failed badly reporting about how the ruling party ‘managed’ to win confidence of the House. They also did not portrayed the irresponsible behaviour of the Communists. There is a sad history of these red flag holders of acting at the behest of their Chinese bosses.
There have been many other occasions too, to believe that most of the Indian journalists live in cocoon and are colour blind in favour of the so called social issues. The latest developments have only proved it further.

Poor record
A few years ago, a large selling news weekly predicted, in its cover story, a defeat of Narendra Modi in the Assembly elections. Modi had a landslide. Again, an apparent campaign was launched against him, when he faced the Assembly elections the last time. All sorts of abuses and distortions of the facts were hurled upon him. His opponents were given prominence. A protest by a group of as many as ’six’ sadhus were reported as if the whole world had came out.
Of course, a defeat or at best a marginal win was predicted. Modi had a thumping victory again. When the results came to the contrary, the media just changed the subject. None of the predictors or the commentators were ashamed.

Power brokers
In India, unlike in some other developed countries, media was largely controlled by the industrial houses. They sought favours of the power hungry politicians and, thus they used the media for the purpose. During that period, only the power brokers in the garb of ‘intellectuals’, ruled the media. Most of them are still occupying some top positions.
In recent years, however, there have been some major changes. A fresh set of “media only” companies is emerging fast. Unfortunately, they don’t have a fresh pool of qualified journalists with objective views. Talent is still scares in the media. These persons may have many degrees to flash, but journalistically, they are only illiterates.
Most of the media persons in India have traditionally been of a socialistic mindset. They thought the State was the best means for the development of the society and the people. And thus they supported a colossal burden of inefficient public ’servants’ who behave like the ‘bosses’. This bunch of the so called educated journalists are not even qualified to understand the emerging issues relating to people, business or the economy. But they are sitting there to ‘analyse’ them.

Without any perspective
Take the issue of “Chinese Model” of development. The politicians have a lucrative vested interest in it. They are raking in billions of rupees through this. The media, unwittingly or otherwise, has failed see the hidden issues and has supported the model. To most of them, anything Chinese is a good thing.
The basic ground realities being different, India has no reason to go for a Chinese Model. Remember, all the properties in China, land and otherwise, belong to the state. It was snatched from the hapless owners of these properties at the time of the ‘Revolution’. Now these properties are being turned into export zones and industrial parks. Let them do it. The ground situation in India is entirely different.

Rob Tom to ‘enrich’ Harry
In India landed properties are being snatched from the poor people at through away prices to give them to industrial houses in the garb of Chinese Model. Who is so naive to think these transactions are not filling the bulging pockets of the powers that be? The industrial houses are happy too. If they were to buy these properties from the market themselves, they would be paying many times more.
Have not robbers forever been selling looted properties at a discount. So are the politicians. If the industrial houses need land or anything, let them to go to the market. But that will be the ‘American Model’. None has any reason to support it. Nothing will accrue to the politicians nor to the bureaucrats. So why promote such a model?

Farmers be damned
Similarly, whenever the prices of farm products rise, a hulabaluis raised. Exports are banned. Large buyers are forced to cancel purchases and the like. This has many ‘benefits’. The poor people are condemned to remain poor. (Are not the poor only are supposed to promote the Socialistic Cause?) Industrialists are milked to give donations and the media persons are rewarded for being progressive.
